I find it quite amazing

The southern tier of NY was hit very hard by flooding this year, especailly the Johnson City/Binghamton area. Homes were destroyed, businesses literally went under, and the whole community was effected. A pet store in one of the lowest lying areas ended up with four feet of water in the building, now this was a flash flood, water levels rose about four feet in an hour, and it happened at about two in the morning. It was bad, very bad, but luckily not one human life was lost. Yet at this pet store, the manager would not allow workers to go back into the store and try to bring some of the animals out. (THERE WERE NO CATS OR DOGS IN THIS STORE ONLY RODENTS, REPTILES, AND FISH)  At this point the water three feet deep. Now having been a regular patron of this store i know that none of the cages/tanks were less then four feet from the ground and none of the animals were in mesh/wire cages. All of the them had glass terrariums/aquariums. Yes some of the animals died, probably from fear, but people went crazy over this.

There were people holding signs up out by the road, telling the pet store not to come back, when less then a block down the road people were throwing away everything in their houses that was destroyed by sewage, mud, and river water. These people who stood there for hours showing passing traffic these signs when they could of been helping their neighbors repair. I myself drove by disgusted after going to get some cleaning supplies from a giveaway at the mall. Yes it is sad that a few rodents and repiles and maybe some fish died but if i was the manager i would of made the same choice. Six inches of water can knock a person down, three feet will drown you, and with sink holes opening up in the mall parking lot less then a quarter mile away, i would not of been willing to risk the lives of my employees either.

It is perfectly fine to fight for something you believe in, but take a moment and look at the whole situation, the cause, the effect, and ripples from the cause not just small one case scenario. I got hit bad at my home but there are others who don't even have a home anymore. No one died and we should all be very thankful of that.
